Interview with Miss Major Griffin-Gracy conducted by Mason Funk August 27, 2016 at the apartment she shared with her son in Oakland. Miss Major Griffin-Gracy was one of a group of transgender women on the front lines of the crowd at the Stonewall Inn on June 28, 1969, fighting back against state oppression and police brutality after the Stonewall was raided by the police yet again. From 2006-2015 she was a key member and executive director of the Transgender Gender Variant Intersex Justice Project (TGIJP), which advocates for currently and formerly incarcerated transgender people. In 201 A documentary about her life entitled Major! was released and garnered best documentary awards at 20 film festivals around the world.
